A global reinsurance company with a large investment function wanted to upskill their investment analysts. The goal was to reduce reliance on spreadsheets for analysis and use the high-level language to perform day to day tasks in an auditable and reproducible manner.
The investment analysts already had some exposure to the Python language and the company wanted to leverage this knowledge going forward.
Describe Data were chosen for this engagement because of our detailed technical knowledge, our background in delivering solutions to the insurance industry and our investment and quant finance background.
In consultation with the investment team and mangers we designed an interactive course using the Python language and Jupyter Notebooks. The course was designed to be delivered in four half-day sessions over the period of two weeks.
The course presented familiar invesment analytics tasks and worked through their solution using the Python language. The course was delivered to a small team with each attendee getting hands on problem solving experience and one on one help with the instructor.
Each of the 4 lessons was designed to be self-contained, with each lesson building on the previous one in terms of Python knowledge and complexity. The aim was to give each attendee the skils, experience and confidence to build their own solutions in the future and meet the day to day challanges of their jobs.
Each interactive lesson included problems to be worked on in the class and homework for the participants to be completed by the next class.
